STRAKE JESUIT ADDS MEDICAL AND PROSTHETIC DESIGNS CLUB

Alex Rodriguez `26
Founded in the fall of 2025, the Strake Jesuit Medical and Prosthetic Designs Club is dedicated to promoting hands-on learning experiences to make the world a better place. Founded by president Aaron Wang ’26, along with vice-presidents Rohan Chimata ’26 and Sebastian Valladolid ’26 the club gained over thirty new members at the school’s annual club fair. The club fair was a pivotal moment for the founders to gain publicity and legitimize their desire, which is to use engineering skills to create resources that help promote an increased awareness of low-income communities.
Starting the club as a senior, Aaron had the opportunity to discern his calling to foster a community devoted to social activism for low-income areas in a particular manner: he reflected upon his experiences amidst completing his Eagle Scout project. For his Eagle Scout project, Aaron constructed a mechanical hand from scratch. In partnership with various beneficiaries, Aaron donated five prosthetic hands to countries abroad. Because he is interested in studying engineering in college, this monumental achievement sparked Aaron’s passion to consolidate future engineers under one common cause:
“Design, print, assemble, and donate,” he explained.
When asked what he envisions for future years to come, Aaron passionately discussed his desire to increase awareness to the use of 3D printing to create objects that could be distributed across the City of Houston for enhanced health. For instance, validating his concept through a fidget toy, Aaron explained how these objects can be donated to very young children and senior citizens as a form of entertainment. Another example occurred when he went to tutor African refugees and donated toys made by 3D printers. Even though the club was founded less than a month ago, its formation and objectives are remarkable—from the founders background experience, to the students who will be joining the club in the future.
If they have not already, students who are passionate about engineering and who desire to use their passion to donate and help uplift communities should consider joining the club. All are welcome.
