BSU Holds Study Night

Inspired by their own toils during previous exam seasons, a group of motivated students involved in the Black Student Union put together a study session for freshmen on December 3 to promote learning through collaboration.

In a structured classroom-style atmosphere for subjects ranging from World History to Spanish, student tutors passed on their wisdom to the eager-to-learn freshmen.

Both the tutors, freshmen, organizers, and dads dedicated their precious Sunday to come together to promote the mighty pillar of academia that Strake Jesuit so highly values.

Parents of the Black Student Union freshmen showed up to make the experience a communal event by keeping the students motivated with delicious food.

Mr. Sam, the moderator of the Black Student Union, speaking of the impact of the event, said, “A family takes care of its own, and this freshmen study session is one of the things that the Black Student Union is doing to accomplish this familiarity. It gives students the opportunity to truly be their brothers’ keeper.”

In the words of Tate Cunningham, a freshman who participated in the event, “I think that this event is a great way for Black Student Union members to look out for each other, especially the underclassmen. It provides an opportunity for us to help one another, in this case academically.”

This event is an example of the innovative projects that the Black Student Union is dedicated to.
