Starting off the season with a bang, on August 17 the Strake Jesuit tennis team beat Lamar 13-0 and on August 23 tied Stratford 6-6. On September 5, they maintained their undefeated record with a win over Pearland Dawson High School, dominating the leaderboard by taking the top 5 doubles matches and going 8-3. In singles, the Crusaders won 7 of the top 9 matches, going 11-4.

“The season has been going great. We have great team energy and leadership from all the players,” Aiden Merchant ‘25 said. “I’m excited to play high level teams and show that SJ is up there with the best.”

However, the tennis team suffered their first loss on September 8 to Katy Tompkins in a hard-fought battle, losing 9-14. Even though this may have spoiled their undefeated start, the team has remained optimistic about their prospects.

“I believe if we keep supporting each other on and off the court and bring the same energy all year long we could go far,” Merchant said.
