Water Polo looks sharp

Owen Gibney ’23
The SJ Varsity Water Polo team has had an amazing year so far, especially after qualifying for State as the number one team in Regionals this past weekend. They came first in the district as well, and they couldn’t have made it this far without great brotherhood and leadership.
“The best part of this season was getting better as a team with the great coaching and leadership from our coach and captains,” said Carson Hopper ‘24.
They had morning workouts in the weight room on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the bulk of their season, and they practice everyday at our pool on campus unless it rains. Four juniors and two seniors lead the pack of 20 Freshmen and 30 Sophomores, 10 of which are competing on the varsity team.
“Our team chemistry is really great,” Head Coach Tim Keogh said.
Congratulations to Matthew Mischlich ‘22, McKay Nelms ‘23, Chris Poisler ‘23, and Charlie Alley ‘24 on their awards from the Regional Tournament. With an outstanding record of 24-3 and a dominating performance at Regionals, expectations are high heading into the State Tournament at the University of Houston this Friday and Saturday May 6-7.
Alan Belloso ‘24 said, “We have a great chance at making the banner.”
Congratulations to the Water Polo team on a fantastic season, and we wish them luck at State.
