SJ Golf Update
Alex Wang ’22
This fall our Varsity and JV Golf teams have been competing in tournaments. Unfortunately, the first three tournaments that the team played in got rained out; however, they have been getting back into the swing of things with other some tournaments.
The Varsity squad of James Clark, Will Koehler, Matt Parker, John Peters, and Philip Steier finished 3rd place at Clear Creek with a team score of 342 on October 29th. Matt Parker won the individual award for the team with a 5-over score of 77. In addition, the JV team of Ben Davis, David Markham, Emmett Vandegrift, Connor Ulery, and Sawyer Watts finished in 2nd place at the Pasadena Municipal tournament with a team score of 367 on December 4th. Emmett Vandegrift took the 2nd overall individual prize with a 13-over score of 85 and David Markham got 3rd with a 14 over score of 86.
The Varsity team will be competing in a prestigious tournament on December 13-14 at the Golf Club of Houston. The tournament will be hosted by Kingwood High School and it will be including some of the strongest teams from around the Houston area. Overall, Coach Dunford “sees a bright future for the team” and believes that they will have a real chance to win the tournament. The future looks bright with seniors Ryan Disch and Thomas Zenner leading the way for the team. Go Crusaders!
