(January 31, 2019) With a fantastic 12-0 start to their season, Strake Jesuit JV White Basketball has continued to dominate its opponents.

The team is currently 18-2, with their district record 8-2. They have improved since their first game, in which they scored only 32 points. They have won one overtime, and one in double overtime game.

“All of the close games we’ve found a way to win, I’m really proud of my players. They are extremely gritty and will fight to the last second,” Dr. Martinez, the coach of JV white basketball, said.

Since their first game, the team has learned to play cohesively and unselfishly according to Coach Martinez, “Passing up good shots for better shots.”

Teamwork has been the key to success.

“We have a great team chemistry. Everyone knows what their role is, and we play extremely well together,” Wyatt Muchard ‘21 said.

Emmanuel Umoekpo ‘21 also had high praise for the team, saying, “It is first time where I’ve been on a team where everyone really goes all out for one another.”

Even with this success, there are still opportunities to be more successful. This team is shooting for the stars.

“Our goal is to get Coach Martinez and Coach Tonche their first district championship,” Emmanuel Umoekpo stated.

Another goal is to become the winningest JV white team that Coach Martinez has led.

JV White would love to have more student fans at their last two home games, which will be on Tuesday, February 5th and Tuesday, February 12th.

(Strake Jesuit JV White scores since January 31: defeated Alief-Hastings, 48-41; defeated Brazoswood, 67-23; defeated George Ranch, 49-40)
