Strake Jesuit is expanding, acquiring new equipment, new teachers, and of course, new facilities. A big attraction to Jesuit is the new Science and Engineering building which will be available to use later in September. Jesuit also has expanded the athletic department.

Where the former apartments on the Gessner side of campus once stood are two multi-purpose practice fields, 218 lockers, 30 large golf lockers, a field house, and a golf complex. Inside the new field house, there will be offices for soccer, rugby, and golf along with a small satellite training room. Storage room and public restrooms will be available as well. The new practice fields will primarily be used for soccer and rugby but are open to any sport. And the good news is that the fields, along with the 218 new lockers are ready to use!

Along with the 218 lockers which will be used by the soccer and rugby teams, there will be 30 large lockers available for the golf team.

“Having our own lockers on campus will be so convenient because it was a pain to find a place to keep my clubs in the past,” said varsity golfer Ashton Radvansky.

The new golf complex will include a 40 meter, fully netted driving range, a chipping area, and a putting green. This is one of the most exciting additions to the athletic expansion. The details are being worked out, but SJ Athletic Director Coach Crowley has explained that P.E. might incorporate a golf unit in its schedule.

All of these new additions to the campus are very exciting and are key to an athlete’s success.

“You must have adequate facilities to develop as an athlete,” said Coach Crowley.

The athletes at SJ are definitely very excited to improve individually and enjoy the new facilities as a team.

“Now all 13 sports have facilities on campus and this expansion is a great advancement for the athletic program and campus in general,” concluded Coach Crowley.
