Asian Culture Club Revives Iconic Events
Ethan Zhao ‘26
Asian Culture Club (ACC) is back! Revived under a new leadership team, our SJ and SAA Asian Culture Club has reintroduced and reinvented many of their most iconic events, including the Boba Social and Dragon Boat Race.
This fall, ACC kicked off their event schedule with a new-and-improved Boba Social. Instead of being hosted off-campus as in previous years, the event was moved into Strake’s Kostka Hall, giving the club greater freedom in planning. With this flexibility, ACC collaborated with both the Mahjong and Table Tennis clubs to introduce games and sports to the social. The boba was specially catered by Feng Cha, which provided 75 cups of their classic milk tea. Hundreds of students rushed into the atrium to get their boba, and within 10 minutes, all 75 cups were sold out. The event went on for nearly two hours, with ACC officers teaching students how to play Mahjong and Table Tennis while mini tournaments emerged.
ACC also reintroduced the iconic Dragon Boat Race with Mr. Jamerlan. Although a centerpiece of the club pre-COVID, scheduling issues in recent years made executing the event difficult. However, this year, the club was able to revive the race and hosted it last Saturday, October 26th. Nearly twenty students showed up to the event and Mr. Jamerlan introduced them to the essence of the dragon boat race. Students were taught the foundational skills needed to row the massive boat and practiced rowing together, paddling thousands of meters within an hour. Afterwards, a plethora of donuts, snacks, and drinks were provided as they disembarked from the tiring training. All in all, everyone greatly enjoyed the newly revived race and the club is preparing for another Dragon Boat event!
ACC is once again ready to introduce new events and reinvent old traditions. Keep an eye out for what’s to come!
