Spectrum takes gold at First Robotics Competition event in Belton, Texas

While the rest of the school had kicked off their spring break, the Robotics team, Spectrum, had one more thing to take care of: competing in the First Robotics Competition’s Belton District Event from March 7 to 9.

Spectrum ranked first in qualification matches and ultimately won all of their playoffs matches, leading them to an event victory. In addition to winning the competition, Spectrum received the Autonomous Award for outstanding performance in the portion of the competition where robots operate solely off of code.

Spectrum took a team of 20 from both Strake Jesuit and St. Agnes students to the competition in order to scout other teams, keep the robot running smoothly, and to participate in the competition.

Many months of preparation and practice went into this event from the drivers refining their driving skills, code writers working around the clock, and the overall team working to improve the robot. This great effort paid off as Spectrum was able to take the victory home.
