Strake Jesuit’s “No Limits” Camp advances Debaters

Campbell Haire ’26
The Strake Jesuit Debate team has consistently been growing and has had strong results each and every year. To further this success the school hosts the “No Limits Debate Camp” over the summer to teach middle schoolers and incoming Strake Jesuit students the fundamental aspects of debate. The program uses graduated debaters from Strake Jesuit to lead a group of middle schoolers or high schoolers to learn and improve their skills, and current debaters act as assistants to help teach lessons and assist in running the camp.
The camp ran June 19 to 30, weekdays, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are group meetings in the morning, a scheduled time for lunch, and practice rounds at the end of each day.
At the end of the camp, on the last two days, the debaters showed off what they had learned in the camp tournament. The instructors and Strake debaters judged the rounds and the students gained valuable knowledge, win or lose, to learn what strategies are successful and what are not.
The students’ experience has overall been very helpful as Nathan Hadi ‘27 explained, “The camp was a wonderful experience, and I learned and improved a lot.” It is also run very smoothly by Mr. Scheller, Mr. Crist, and the other debate coaches. Mr. Scheller was proud of another successful year and said, “We were delighted to welcome everyone to the Strake Jesuit ‘No Limits Debate Camp.’ Campers hit the ground running and accomplished much.”
The camp has prepared many of our new freshmen for an exciting year of hard work and success.
